Cityscape,

Cloth and stitching 114.0 × 152.0 cm

Between 2011-14, the artist engaged in the creation of numerous maps depicting various cities, drawing inspiration from both the historical and contemporary cartography of these places. Utilising recycled materials, such as small cloth remnants sourced from tailors and larger fabric pieces found at second-hand markets, the artist focused on creating a visual language making large-scale artworks that required certain technical expertise using her hands.

In this work Khurana abstracts the maps that inspire her, creating a large scale tapestry of rich hues. Each scrap of fabric represents the liveliness of the land from a bird’s eye perspective..
