Description

In her recent work, the artist delves into the concept of a Map as an object with formal qualities of line, colour and shape. Maps serve as poignant reminders to the artist, of boundaries, cultures, nations and identities. Her maps are formal explorations; visual interpretations of places as layered tapestries. Maps are linear representations of physical spaces drawn according to scale. However, the representational nature of a map forces a simplification of the territory it represents therefore making it incomplete.

In this piece, Khurana portrays a map of Baroda (now Vadodara) in silver on silk. By reducing the map to lines, Khurana emphasises the representational quality of maps and the inherent simplification of the territory they depict, thus rendering them incomplete.
